The Real Origin Story Behind Shameless Care
If you look at the origin stories of most telemedicine companies, they all sound the same. A group of founders sees an “emerging market opportunity,” they raise a few million dollars in venture capital, and they talk endlessly about scale, market share, exit strategy, and disruption. The language might change, but the motivation rarely does. The goal is growth, valuation, and liquidity.
My story is nothing like that.
I did not found Shameless Care because I thought the healthcare sector was ripe for expansion.
I did not chase venture capital or map out an exit plan on a whiteboard.
I built this company because I had to.
And the reason is simple. I learned firsthand how broken and outdated sexual health care really is.
⸻
The Moment Everything Changed
I did everything I believed responsible adults were supposed to do. I got an STI test, a standard panel, the same one millions of people get every year. It came back negative. I assumed I was protecting my partners. I assumed the test had actually tested what mattered.
Then I got a message no one ever wants to receive.
A partner told me I had infected her.
I was stunned. I had literally been told I was “all clear” days earlier. But that negative result was incomplete. The test I received checked only for genital infections. It did not include a throat swab, even though oral exposure is incredibly common and incredibly easy to miss. When I finally persuaded a provider to run an oral test, the result was positive. Same infection. Same week. One test looked in the wrong place. The other looked where the infection actually was.
That experience did not simply embarrass me. It changed me. It showed me how inadequate sexual health testing truly is. It showed me how little most people understand about these infections. And it showed me how unbelievably difficult it can be to get accurate care even when you ask directly for it.
Most companies are founded because someone spots a business opportunity.
Shameless Care exists because I experienced a medical failure that should never happen.
I started this company because I wanted to fix the problem that blindsided me.
I wanted to build the system I wish had existed when I needed it.
⸻
No Investors. No Safety Net. No Corporate Playbook.
Here is the part most people never hear.
Shameless Care has zero outside investors.
None.
I did not raise a seed round or take on venture capital.
I used my entire life savings to build this company.
Every dollar I had went into developing the platform, securing physicians, building pharmacy relationships, designing the testing panels, and creating the kind of responsible sexual health service that I never had access to when I needed it most.
There is no board demanding quarterly growth.
No investors pushing subscription traps or teaser pricing.
No outside pressure to inflate margins or cut corners.
Just me, working like my life depends on it, because in many ways it does.
When you are self-funded, you cannot hide behind investors or pitch decks.
You build honestly, or you fail.
You treat people well, or you lose them.
There is no cushion. Just responsibility.

What We Built Instead of an Exit Strategy
Most telemedicine companies sell a business model.
We built a mission.
We built Shameless Care to be:
- transparent
- ethical
- clinically responsible
- free from subscriptions
- priced honestly
- centered on patient education
- grounded in real medical science
- focused on comprehensive STI testing
- open about how the industry actually works
We are not trying to scale for scale’s sake.
We are trying to help people avoid the exact situation I found myself in, and the countless situations our patients share with us every day.
Our customers come back to us not because we lock them in or auto bill them, but because they trust us.
That trust is earned through transparency, quality, and a refusal to play the games that dominate this industry.
⸻
Why We Will Never Operate Like the Big Companies
When you see endless ads on social media promoting instant approvals, unbelievably cheap medication, or “limited time” subscription discounts, you are seeing companies built to maximize lifetime value, not patient well-being.
We refuse to operate like that.
Because I know what it feels like to think you are doing everything correctly, only to discover that the system failed you.
Shameless Care is built to prevent those failures.
And it is built by someone who lived through one.
⸻
This Is Why We Exist
Shameless Care was not created to chase trends or capitalize on a moment.
It was created out of necessity.
It was created out of frustration.
It was created out of a commitment to making sexual health care safer, clearer, more accurate, and easier to navigate.
Most companies begin with investors and exit plans.
This one began with a human experience that demanded something better.
We exist because sexual health deserves honesty.
We exist because people deserve real testing and real answers.
We exist because no one should have to learn the hard way what I learned firsthand.
And we exist because someone needed to build the company that should have existed all along.
